A*STAR Peer Support & Mindfulness
I was part of the founding peer support group for A*STAR colleagues based at one-north. We met regularly, roughly fortnightly or monthly and I recall around 15 gatherings in 2019. Our meetups included coaching from invited speakers on mindfulness and supporting one another, creating space to listen, reflect and connect beyond our technical roles. These gatherings offered space to listen, reflect and connect with colleagues beyond our technical roles.
SEMICON Southeast Asia 2022
Setia SPICE Convention Centre & Arena · Penang, Malaysia
I attended as an individual visitor, carrying an early vision for TrailBlazer Empire. It was an opportunity to broaden my industry exposure and explore how semiconductor products create value and opportunity.
Launching My YouTube Academy
I launched my own YouTube Academy to share semiconductor engineering knowledge, explain the post-RTL-to-GDSII design flow, and make complex technical concepts more accessible. Teaching helped me strengthen my understanding, develop clearer communication, and contribute beyond my own engineering work.
Engineering truth, a broader responsibility
A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics (IME)
This photograph at A*STAR IME captures a period when my focus was on how technical systems are built, why methodology matters, and why precision cannot be compromised. Looking back, what has changed is my perspective on responsibility. Understanding execution remains essential, but so does deciding what deserves to be built, funded, and scaled. My work now connects that technical foundation with capital, governance, policy, and economic relevance. Growth has meant expanding my perspective without losing touch with engineering reality.
Malaysia Technology Seminar 2024
Penang Marriott Hotel
In 2024, I attended Cadence CONNECT with Intel listed on my badge, continuing to engage with the technical foundations of semiconductor design. That year also marked my return to Intel after Kae Yih Lim reached out with an opportunity to join his team. The experience gave me space to reflect on how I wanted to contribute next: connecting engineering with institutions, market intelligence, strategy, technology, and capital. The ambition I carried at SEMICON 2022 was becoming a clearer direction. Ownership was not the goal; contribution was.
CTOS SME BIZ Day
I attended CTOS SME BIZ Day to understand how business credibility is assessed, especially for SMEs. I wanted to explore how governance, statutory compliance, and financial information contribute to that credibility. I was still learning how these pieces fit together. I did not leave with every answer, but the exposure helped me look beyond technical delivery and begin understanding the wider responsibilities of running and advising a business.
Shaping Tomorrow’s Technologists
Jointly organised by the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) and Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC).
Attending through TrailBlazer Empire, I explored the theme of leadership, digital presence, and industry impact alongside fellow technologists and leaders. The insights and open discussions offered practical ideas for digital positioning, communication, and industry transformation—connecting technical expertise with how we lead, communicate, and contribute.
IEEE
Invited by a former A*STAR colleague, I attended for networking and to reconnect with the engineering community.
ASNB Premier Wealth Series
Northern Region — Penang
This was an invitation I particularly valued. At the ASNB Premier Wealth Series, I gained exposure to discussions on Malaysia’s and overseas economies, the influence of bond markets on Asia, ASNB’s direction, and how external fund managers work alongside its investment team. The event broadened my understanding of fixed income and the relationship between economic conditions and investment decisions.

Pentastic Day
A November programme bringing together startup, technology, talent, and entrepreneurship conversations across Penang.
The calendar features workshops, masterclasses, founder sessions, AI, digitalisation, and venture-building discussions throughout the month.
This event reference highlights the wider ecosystem surrounding startup growth, innovation, and business capability.
AIMxchange Conference
A conference experience centred on innovation, manufacturing, technology, and the people shaping the next stage of industry.
I attended as a General Attendee representing TrailBlazer Empire, using the opportunity to learn, connect, and exchange perspectives with professionals across the ecosystem.
The conversations reinforced the value of bringing technical understanding, business strategy, and wider industry relationships into the same room.
Insights & Perspectives
Ideas, observations, and lessons from practice—exploring the technical challenges, decisions, and experiences that shaped my approach to problem-solving.
Fundamentals of Memory Design and Physical Design Engineering Considerations
Memory design extends beyond architecture to physical implementation, where placement, routing, signal integrity, power consumption, and thermal management interact. This article explores how engineers balance these competing constraints to achieve reliable and efficient semiconductor designs.
Underlying thinking: Systems thinking and trade-off evaluation.
Optimizing Chip Design: Balancing Frequency, Latency, and Speed
Optimising chip performance requires balancing operating frequency, signal latency, and timing constraints rather than maximising speed alone. Through place-and-route considerations and setup-time violations, this article examines the engineering trade-offs involved in achieving performance, power, and area objectives.
Underlying thinking: Constraint-based problem solving and performance optimisation.
Overview on Optimizing VLSI Place and Route Workflows: A Look at Licensing, Resource Management, and Design Complexity
Efficient VLSI workflows depend on more than design tools. Drawing on a discussion with a VLSI expert, this article examines licensing, computing resources, benchmarking, and design complexity to demonstrate how systematic preparation and resource planning influence engineering productivity.
Underlying thinking: Resource allocation, operational planning, and bottleneck identification.
The Semiconductor Journey: Dynamics of my past experience
Reflecting on experiences across Intel, MediaTek, and A*STAR, this article examines how different organisational environments shape technical responsibilities, accountability, and learning. It highlights the importance of risk mitigation, communicating with RTL designers and application engineers, and adapting established methodologies to unfamiliar challenges.
Underlying thinking: Risk management, cross-functional coordination, and independent decision-making.
Embracing Challenges in the Semiconductor Industry: My Experiences as an Engineer
Drawing from hands-on engineering experience at MediaTek, this article explores the relationship between automation, technical fundamentals, and professional accountability. It highlights how adapting to different workflows, collaborating with application engineers, and continually developing practical skills contribute to stronger problem-solving capabilities.
Underlying thinking: Adaptability, technical independence, and collaborative problem solving.
Navigating the Corporate Landscape: My Journey as a Physical Design Engineer at Intel
My early experience at Intel reinforced the value of structured methodologies, stakeholder understanding, and disciplined execution. Learning to navigate unfamiliar processes, collaborate with experienced colleagues, and revisit completed work demonstrated how technical knowledge and organisational awareness contribute to efficient problem resolution.
Underlying thinking: Stakeholder management, process discipline, and continuous learning.
